About Leif & Margaret

Leif has been creating high end Landscapes on Waiheke Island for 17 years, gaining a wealth of experience through this and living on the land, experimenting with nature inspired systems to recycle organic waste, use resources effectively, care for the soil, produce food and create comfortable, beautiful spaces to exist within.

Margaret is passionate about plants, bringing her innate ability to learn about and come to know plants and how to bring them together to create a wonderful diversity of colour and form. Flowers are her favourite, and will be sure to bring joy and life to any garden they feature in.

Together we have a vision to bring landscapes inspired by the principles of nature, using primarily locally sourced, natural materials with a focus on biodiversity - Naturalistic Landscapes - into the awareness of the community of the South Wairarapa and Aotearoa.

We believe maintaining a connection to the natural world is important in an age of unprecedented technological growth.

We believe nature is still valid, offering us so many options to help improve our lives in ways that require less time and money than their technological or industrial
alternatives. We are here to create a little island of wilderness for you to live amongst, bringing food, shelter, shade, colour, birds, butterflies, bees and the sounds and pleasure of nature without costing the earth.

We believe using technology and nature in balance will be where true solutions are found. The potential here is limitless!

Wild Islands has various ways to approach design, providing options to suit any preference or budget.

We intend to make landscaping more accessible, and often the design process can be inhibitive. Bringing flexibility and alternative ways to achieve this is part of our mission to bring nature to your backyard.

Looking for a landscape that requires less time, energy and money to create and maintain?Naturalistic landscapes use materials you would find in nature to bring the look & feel of a natural setting to your garden, intentionally refined to create the desired effect.

Naturalistic landscapes by design are more resilient, an ecosystem that is able to tolerate seasonal change & climatic extremes while remaining healthy and vibrant long term with less inputs and maintenance.Because naturalistic landscaping uses less manufactured materials and hard landscaping features, they are generally more cost effective.

We aspire to create landscapes that work for you, work for nature, and improve in beauty and function over time.
